I read about a couple doing something similar:
“Brewer and his wife, probably the sixth or seventh owners of this home, consider themselves to be caretakers of the house. To Brewer the act of owning and occupying the house for 20 or 30 years and then passing it along is very important. So he set about to make the house “more of what it already was,” he says…”
We are going to be caretakers of this old house in Dufur. I never pictured living in Dufur, but am looking forward to it. It has been a dream of mine for most of my adult life to fix up (and I do mean doing MUCH more than just paint, etc.) and restore an old house. I grew up in a very old house in Wasco OR and love all the interesting nooks and crannies. I view this as an adventure.
Bob is out in the garage now with his very old wood lathe that he bought last summer from the couple who just moved out of our Dufur house. He is experimenting and refining his design for some of the wood details for the porch. Hand made – just like all the rest of the house. It seems somehow more connected to our house because the lathe used to “live” there too.
